Landscape Architect and designer Anca Panait of AHR has been working in partnership with (RHS) Scotland as part of their 2017 Greening Grey Britain campaign which aims to help organisations supporting young people to work in partnership to transform grey spaces in their local communities into thriving neighbourhood places for people and wildlife. The Young Saheliya is a specialist mental health and well-being support organisation for black, minority ethnic, asylum seeker, refugee and migrant women and girls aged 12-25 in the Edinburgh and Glasgow area.RHS Outreach project working with the charity Young Saheliya in Glasgow to green the previously ‘grey’ courtyard at their centre, working with women and girls referred to the service. The garden-based project aims to build skills, encourage socialising, English language conversation and self-esteem amongst the clients, who are from a range of black or minority ethnic backgrounds and/or at risk of exclusion…Photos by RHS/Julie Howden.
Anca and the RHS, in partnership with the girls used their £1,500 grant to physically transform their 48m2 backyard in Springburn, north Glasgow (a former car park) into a colourful, secluded, outdoor, social refuge and oasis.
