Mark Turnbull FLI – a few words

It is with great sadness that the LIS must announce that our Chairperson, Mark Turnbull FLI, passed away suddenly on Thursday, 19th May.

Mark was a prominent practitioner, mentor and friend to many across the landscape profession in Scotland, the UK and beyond. In his role as Chairperson Mark reinvigorated the LIS from a Branch that was in the doldrums. His energy, enthusiasm and drive to promote Landscape Architects and Landscape Architecture in Scotland was astonishing and inspirational. He was a guiding spirit for us all, always ready to listen, engage people in our cause and fight for a stronger profession. The work he has achieved for both the Landscape Institute on the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Technical Committee, and as Chairperson of this Branch over the last few years will never be forgotten.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held in Edinburgh at 3.00pm on Friday, 27th May at the Lorimer Chapel, Warriston Crematorium, 36 Warriston Road, Edinburgh, EH7 4HW. The memorial will be followed by refreshments served in the Caledonian Hall of the Edinburgh Royal Botanic Gardens from 4.30pm to 6.00pm.

Mark’s wife Sharon has requested that the event be open to all, and would like to invite friends and colleagues to attend and remember Mark.

Mark was a passionate sailor and his family have requested that any donations be made to the Tobermory RNLI on the Isle of Mull.

On behalf of the Landscape Institute Scotland (LIS)
