European Marine Science Park, Oban – A Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters case study

Submitted by Wardell Armstrong

The European Marine Science Park is one of the world’s leading centres in marine biology and is located near the town of Oban. EMSP provides high quality laboratory and office accommodation for marine science, as well as world class biological research. As Scotland’s largest and oldest independent marine science organisation, the Scottish Association for Marine Science strives for a healthy and sustainably managed marine environment through research, education, and public engagement. Due to the nature of the research facility, a lot of consideration has been taken in preserving the surrounding landscape and minimising impact on local wildlife, as the site sits in an environmentally sensitive location on the shores of Ardmucknish Bay.
